Dental Fillings and Cavity Treatment in Anchorage

Fillings are the main method dentists use to fill in cavities in your teeth and prevent tooth decay from spreading. It is generally a quick and painless procedure. Your dentist will simply drill a small hole into your tooth, remove any decay, clean the affected area, and then fill in any cracks or spaces with a filling material.

Types of Dental Fillings We Use

There are several different materials available for filling in a damaged tooth. The best type depends on the location of your filling, the extent of repair, and the cost. We’ll work with you to determine the right material for your situation:

  • Composite: Plastic resin fillings that are custom-made to match the color of your teeth. Plastic is prone to staining and may chip or wear over time.
  • Porcelain: Ceramic or porcelain fillings are created in a lab and then bonded to the tooth. They are the most aesthetic option as they blend in and are resistant to stains.
  • Gold: These fillings are custom-made from gold in a laboratory and cemented into place. Most people’s gums tolerate gold well, and they are very durable. However, the gold may be noticeable.
  • Amalgam: Also known as silver fillings, amalgam filling are well-tolerated by the gums and very durable. They are also a more affordable choice than gold, but they are also very noticeable and are most often used on molars or hard-to-see spots.
